For Spring Summer 2027, Grace Ling returned to New York Fashion Week with Oddities, a collection built around contradictions: masculine and feminine, sensuality and strength, beauty and danger. But rather than treating these opposites as choices, Ling asks why they have to exist separately in the first place.
That idea was established from the very beginning. Against a striking set of white willow trees, the opening look presented a modern interpretation of Adam and Eve: sculpted chrome leaves curved across the bust and waist, paired with a moss-green asymmetrical skirt and a silver apple held in the model’s hand. It was beautiful, but deliberately unsettling. The apple became a symbol of temptation and danger, introducing one of the collection’s central ideas — that something can be alluring and harmful at the same time.

The look also captured what has become recognisable about Grace Ling: the body treated almost like a sculptural surface. Metal hardware, sharp shapes and engineered details wrapped around the figure rather than simply sitting on it. Yet this season, Ling was interested in what happens when that sculptural language becomes part of an actual wardrobe.
Across the 32 looks, tailoring became one of the collection’s strongest developments. A cinched vest paired with dramatically wide-leg trousers created a proportion that felt simultaneously polished and relaxed, while structured blazer dresses and skirt suits introduced traditional ideas of power dressing into Ling’s more futuristic world.

This is where Oddities felt particularly significant for the brand. Grace Ling has become increasingly associated with sculptural red-carpet pieces worn by celebrities including Kim Kardashian and Lisa, but SS27 suggested that the label is becoming less dependent on the spectacle of a single statement look. The tailoring, outerwear and separates demonstrated that Ling’s design vocabulary can extend beyond couture moments and into pieces that can actually form a wardrobe.
The contrast between traditionally masculine and feminine codes was everywhere. A corseted mini dress was constructed from suiting fabric, while sharply tailored pieces incorporated softer draping. Dresses exposed the body while structured garments seemed to armour it. Instead of choosing between femininity and masculinity, Ling allowed both to occupy the same silhouette.

The collection’s darker side came through in its fabrication and details. Leather, silk and fluid draping created a distinctly vampiric atmosphere, while metal scorpions appeared to wrap around bodies and garments. Sharp, claw-like nails — now something of a Grace Ling signature — reinforced the slightly dangerous femininity of the collection. The effect was sensual without becoming conventionally romantic.
Colour remained relatively restrained, with black, white, grey and deep brown forming the foundation. Maroon introduced warmth without disrupting the darker mood, while silver hardware provided flashes of cold metallic shine. One particularly effective fabric was a silk organza that transitioned from grey pinstripe into black, appearing across trousers, coordinated sets, bralettes and structured blazer dresses. It brought together the collection’s opposing ideas in a single material: traditional tailoring gradually dissolving into something more fluid and mysterious.

One of the standout looks was a white sheen dress with deliberately burned edges, revealing an umber-toned sheer layer underneath. Corseted detailing emerged around the bust, creating the impression that the pristine exterior had been damaged to reveal something darker beneath it. Styled almost without accessories, apart from the model’s exaggerated talon-like nails, the look showed how much impact Ling can create through construction alone.
But if the collection was largely about translating her couture vocabulary into a more wearable wardrobe, Ling reserved two looks for pure spectacle: the opening and finale.

The finale presented another mythical woman — this time a modern Icarus. Two sculpted silver ravens wrapped around the model’s bust, waist and head, with their forms partially covering her eyes. Their claws appeared to grip a simple white floor-length skirt at the waist. Where the opening look explored the danger of temptation, the finale suggested the danger of ambition: the warning not to fly too close to the sun.
Together, the two couture looks bookended a collection obsessed with beauty’s darker side. Adam and Eve introduced the temptation of something beautiful that could cause harm; the raven-covered Icarus concluded with a reminder of the consequences of reaching too far. Yet the most interesting development of Oddities happened between those two extremes.
Ling’s sculptural couture remains an important part of the brand’s identity, but SS27 demonstrated that her tailoring may be just as important to its future. The leather jackets, wide-leg trousers, vests and suiting pieces retain the label’s gothic, futuristic edge without requiring a red carpet to justify their existence. A leather jacket, for example, still carried Ling’s signature vampiric attitude but was clean enough to function as a genuinely desirable wardrobe staple.

That balance makes Oddities feel less like a collection of isolated viral moments and more like the construction of a complete fashion language. Ling is not abandoning the dramatic pieces that made her name; she is building the quieter pieces around them.
And perhaps that is the collection’s real argument. Masculine or feminine. Soft or sharp. Wearable or theatrical. Beautiful or dangerous. Grace Ling refuses to choose. Instead, she makes them coexist.
