At New York Fashion Week Spring Summer 2027, Almée Couture returned to the international runway with a collection that felt deeply connected to Cambodia while speaking through the language of contemporary couture. Founded in 2024 by Cambodian designer Taing Sokhang, Almée is built around the idea that heritage does not have to remain in the past. Through elaborate craftsmanship, sculptural silhouettes and distinctly romantic details, the young couture house is finding ways to translate Khmer identity into something that can exist on a global fashion stage.

The presentation also marked another important moment for Sokhang. In January 2026, she became the first Cambodian fashion designer to present a collection at New York Fashion Week, making her return for Spring Summer 2027 more than simply another runway appearance. Her debut collection, Spirit of the Forgotten, explored time, eternity, rebirth, loss and ancestral memory, and carried an especially personal meaning as it was dedicated to her father, who passed away shortly after she arrived in New York. This season, Almée continued that journey, once again bringing Cambodian creativity into a fashion environment where it is still relatively unfamiliar.

One of the most striking looks from Le Jardin Des Rêves captures the collection’s romantic sensibility through flowers. The sheer, sculpted gown is covered in delicate three-dimensional blooms, each individually shaped and applied by hand. Rather than simply decorating the surface, the flowers become part of the construction, creating depth as they spread across the body. Metallic embroidery and crystal embellishment add another layer of texture, while a dramatic feathered stole introduces volume against the transparency of the dress.
The idea behind the look is simple but beautifully suited to couture: petals carried gently by the wind. The embroidery appears to drift across the sheer fabric, while the feathers exaggerate that feeling of movement. It is the kind of detail that only really reveals itself up close. From a distance, the gown reads as an ethereal floral silhouette; closer inspection reveals the hours of handwork responsible for creating its texture.

That attention to craftsmanship is particularly significant for Almée. Cambodia is internationally recognised as an important garment manufacturing hub, but Sokhang is presenting another side of the country’s fashion identity — one centred not on production volume, but on artistry, cultural storytelling and couture craftsmanship. Her work challenges the idea that Cambodia’s place in global fashion has to be defined by manufacturing alone. Instead, she is positioning Cambodian design as something that can also occupy the worlds of luxury and couture.
And importantly, she is not doing it alone. Cambodian photographers, models and production assistants were involved in bringing the New York presentation together, making the runway a broader expression of Cambodian creative talent rather than the achievement of one designer in isolation. There is something particularly meaningful about seeing an entire creative community participate in a project designed to introduce a Cambodian fashion perspective to an international audience.

The collection’s floral imagery also gives Almée a visual language that feels immediately accessible without losing its sense of identity. Flowers, feathers, crystals and sheer fabrics are familiar elements within couture, but their combination here creates a distinctly dreamlike atmosphere. The flowers do not sit neatly on the garment like conventional embellishment; they appear to grow across it, giving the gown an almost organic quality.
That balance between delicacy and structure is where Almée Couture feels most compelling. The gown is undeniably elaborate, but its transparency and soft movement prevent the craftsmanship from becoming visually heavy. Every element seems to have been chosen to create the impression of something floating — petals moving through air, feathers following the body, and embroidery catching the light as the wearer moves.

For a house only established in 2024, Almée is already building a surprisingly clear identity. Taing Sokhang’s Spring Summer 2027 collection at New York Fashion Week is not simply an exercise in putting Cambodian fashion on an international runway. It is part of a larger effort to expand the way Cambodian fashion can be understood: not only as a major part of the global garment industry, but as a source of luxury, creativity, craftsmanship and cultural storytelling.
Perhaps that is what makes Le Jardin Des Rêves so fitting. Its flowers are delicate, but they are not fragile. Each one has been individually constructed and carefully placed, turning a soft romantic image into evidence of considerable technical work. In much the same way, Almée Couture is still a young house, but it is already carefully building its place within the international fashion landscape — one flower, one stitch and one couture creation at a time.
