Excitement is bubbling up in the fashion and film worlds as Puck has recently unveiled that a sequel to The Devil Wears Prada could be on the horizon. Early development is reportedly underway at Disney, sparking a flurry of speculation and anticipation online. Deadline has corroborated these tantalizing hints with insider sources, though Disney has yet to make an official announcement. Fans and industry insiders alike are eagerly awaiting more details about what could be the highly anticipated return to the iconic world of high fashion.
Based on Lauren Weisberger’s bestselling novel, which fictionalized her experience as an assistant to Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, The Devil Wears Prada follows Hathaway’s character, Andy Sachs, as she navigates the high-stakes world of fashion publishing. Andy is initially captivated by Streep’s commanding Miranda Priestly but ultimately breaks free by the film’s end. However, Andy and Miranda’s paths cross again in Weisberger’s two follow-up novels.

Upon its release, the original film grossed over $326 million globally, received two Oscar nominations, and inspired a stage musical starring Vanessa Williams as Miranda Priestly, which is currently running in London’s West End. Given the film’s success, it’s no surprise that studios have shown interest in a sequel.
However, in a recent Vanity Fair cover story, Hathaway expressed skepticism about the idea. According to Hathaway, “I just think that movie was in a different era. Everything has gone so digital, and that movie centered around the concept of producing a physical thing.”

Entertainment Weekly’s production source reveals that Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci—who portrayed the devoted art director Nigel—are all in discussions to return for the sequel. Additionally, original director David Frankel, screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna, and producer Wendy Finerman are also being considered to reprise their roles. Disney has declined to comment on the report, and the publication has also reached out to representatives for the involved talent.

Regarding the plot, Puck noted “The storyline being discussed focuses on Miranda Priestly, Streep’s Wintour-esque protagonist, at the end of her career, facing the decline of traditional magazine publishing. She’s forced to go head-to-head with her former assistant, Blunt’s Emily Charlton, now a high-powered executive at a Kering or LVMH-style luxury group, whose advertising dollars Priestly desperately needs.”
