The Dries Van Noten fashion house has entered a new chapter with the appointment of Julian Klausner as its Creative Director. This announcement comes six months after Dries Van Noten, the legendary Belgian designer and founder, stepped down from his role, leaving behind a legacy rooted in artistry, innovation, and authenticity. Van Noten’s decision to retire was marked by an emotional farewell runway show in Paris, where he expressed his desire to make room for a new generation of talents to bring fresh perspectives to the brand.

Klausner, a 33-year-old Belgian designer and La Cambre graduate, is no stranger to the house. Since 2018, he has been overseeing Dries Van Noten’s womenswear collections, honing his understanding of the label’s distinct ethos and aesthetic. His prior experience includes stints at Maison Margiela, Kenzo, and Thom Browne. Van Noten praised Klausner as a natural successor, stating, “He is not only a talented designer but also a clear choice to take over after my departure. His deep understanding of the brand and its values will ensure a seamless transition and a bright future.”

Klausner’s first collection for the house will debut in January during the menswear season, followed by his inaugural womenswear presentation at Paris Fashion Week in March. In his new role, he will oversee both menswear and womenswear, ensuring that the brand’s hallmark—an intricate interplay of textures, patterns, and silhouettes—remains intact while continuing to evolve.

This appointment reflects the Puig-owned house’s commitment to continuity and its preference for nurturing internal talent rather than chasing external, high-profile names. Klausner’s promotion underscores the brand’s dedication to preserving its singular vision and staying true to its values amidst an industry often driven by fleeting trends and celebrity endorsements.

In a statement, Klausner expressed his gratitude and excitement, saying, “The incomparable legacy that Dries is leaving behind is monumental, serving as an endless source of precious inspiration. I look forward to embarking on new ambitious challenges while honoring the heritage we all cherish.”

Van Noten’s choice to promote from within is a testament to his belief in prioritizing vision over branding. For decades, the designer has championed imagination and craftsmanship, crafting collections that resonate with those who value quality and creativity over mere marketing. Under Klausner’s leadership, the Dries Van Noten label is poised to carry this philosophy forward, blending heritage with innovation and reinforcing its status as a quiet yet powerful force in the fashion world.
