After more than a decade at the creative helm of Loewe, Jonathan Anderson is officially stepping down. His tenure saw the Spanish luxury house evolve from a respected leather brand into a global fashion powerhouse, blending traditional craftsmanship with a modern, avant-garde sensibility.

A Revolutionary Era for Loewe

Appointed at just 29 years old in 2013, Anderson quickly proved his creative genius. Under his direction, Loewe became one of the most coveted luxury brands worldwide. His influence extended beyond the runway, reshaping the brand’s identity through bold, artistic designs and a deep commitment to craftsmanship.

A defining moment of his leadership was the launch of the Puzzle bag, which became an instant icon and is now celebrating its 10th anniversary. Anderson also brought Loewe into pop culture’s mainstream with collaborations spanning from Paula’s Ibiza to Studio Ghibli and On Running, making the brand synonymous with innovation and cultural relevance. His ability to balance artistic expression with commercial success led to an estimated sevenfold increase in Loewe’s revenue, now approaching €2 billion.

A Farewell and a New Chapter

In a statement reflecting on his departure, Anderson expressed gratitude to his team, saying:
“Over the last eleven years, I have been lucky enough to be surrounded by people with the imagination, the skills, tenacity, and resourcefulness to say ‘yes’ to all my wildly ambitious ideas. While my chapter draws to a close, Loewe’s story will continue for many years to come, and I will look on with pride, watching the amazing Spanish brand I once called home continue to grow.”

Loewe CEO Pascale Lepoivre praised Anderson’s visionary leadership, stating that his legacy will endure through the codes he established, deeply rooted in craftsmanship. Sidney Toledano, a senior figure at LVMH, also commended Anderson’s ability to merge artistry with commercial success, securing Loewe’s place as a leader in contemporary luxury.

While Anderson’s next move has yet to be officially confirmed, industry speculation points to Dior, with rumors suggesting he has already begun working on the brand’s Spring 2026 menswear collection.

Loewe’s Future: The Proenza Schouler Duo Takes the Lead

Just a week after confirming Anderson’s departure, Loewe announced his successors: Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez, the visionary designers behind Proenza Schouler. Known for their sleek, sophisticated aesthetic, the duo has long been celebrated for their ability to merge modern craftsmanship with urban elegance.

McCollough and Hernandez, who founded Proenza Schouler after meeting at Parsons School of Design, will oversee all of Loewe’s creative operations, including womenswear, menswear, leather goods, and accessories, starting April 7, 2025. In a statement, they expressed their excitement for the new role:
“We are incredibly honored to join Loewe, a house whose values and mission align closely with our own. We look forward to working alongside its extraordinary teams and artisans, whose talent—under the exceptional creative direction of Jonathan Anderson—has shaped Loewe into the cultural force it is today.”

An Impossible Act to Follow?

Jonathan Anderson’s departure marks the end of an era for Loewe, and fashion insiders are eager to see how his successors will navigate the house’s future. Avril Mair, fashion director at Harper’s Bazaar, summed up Anderson’s impact:
“He’s widely considered one of fashion’s most original thinkers. That he’s also one of the most commercial—his Loewe bags have been smash hits over his decade at the house while his Uniqlo collaboration has spanned eight years—does nothing to diminish his great creativity. He’ll be an almost impossible act to follow.”

As the industry awaits official confirmation of Anderson’s next move, one thing is certain: his legacy at Loewe will remain a benchmark for future creative directors. Whether at Dior or beyond, his next chapter is bound to be just as groundbreaking.
