For decades, an Elie Saab gown has represented red-carpet glamour: intricate embellishment, romantic lace and dramatic silhouettes designed to command attention. Now, the Lebanese maison is bringing that fantasy to a mass audience through its first major H&M collaboration, launching October 22 with 54 pieces spanning womenswear, menswear, accessories and footwear.

The collection translates Saab’s most recognisable codes—gradient sequins, lace, shimmering finishes, monograms and sharp tailoring—into a complete wardrobe. Floor-length gowns and sculptural eveningwear sit alongside sequinned tailoring, embellished bodysuits, monogrammed shirting and towering platforms. Rather than stripping away the drama to make the designs more commercial, both brands insist on preserving the “true Elie Saab,” with H&M’s Ann-Sofie Johansson stressing that it should never be “a poorer version of something.”
That distinction is important. This collaboration is less about making Elie Saab casual than making its glamour accessible. Saab built his reputation through bridalwear and haute couture, eventually becoming one of the first international members of France’s Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture. Bringing those codes to H&M allows customers who might normally experience the brand only through celebrity red carpets to participate in its visual fantasy.

For Elie Saab, the timing also reflects a broader shift from an occasionwear-focused house toward a more expansive lifestyle and ready-to-wear business. CEO Elie Saab Jr. describes the collaboration as arriving while the brand is expanding internationally and developing its ready-to-wear line. H&M, meanwhile, gets to tap into precisely the kind of recognisable luxury identity that has made its designer collaborations successful for more than two decades.

Ultimately, the partnership works because neither side is trying to completely reinvent the other. H&M gains the cultural cachet of couture, while Elie Saab gains a new level of reach without abandoning its signature glamour. At a moment when fashion has spent years embracing quiet luxury and minimalism, the collection makes a deliberately different proposition: sequins, lace, towering heels and unapologetic dressing up. As Saab puts it, “We respect what our clients love from us”—and now, that fantasy is available to a much larger audience.
