Fresh off his Oscar win for Oppenheimer, Cillian Murphy is embarking on his next venture, teaming up with Donatella Versace for the fashion house’s latest Icons campaign. The 47-year-old actor joins forces with another Versace veteran and fellow Oscar winner, Anne Hathaway, in the New Versace Icons Campaign. Photographed by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott and styled by Jacob K, the campaign showcases the duo donning pieces from the new Versace line.

The luxury fashion label has announced that Irish actor Cillian Murphy will serve as the inaugural ambassador for the men’s Versace Icons collection. This marks Murphy’s debut campaign with the brand, where he will showcase “key and timeless pieces” from the men’s Icons collection, as stated in a press release.
The commercial, drawing influence from the boldly provocative Versace Men’s campaigns of the 1990s, provides a glimpse behind the scenes of its creation. Set amidst the energetic ambiance of the photoshoot, Murphy is seen wearing garments from Versace’s essential-focused Icons line: a basic white tank layered beneath a well-fitted black jacket paired with coordinating high-waisted trousers, cinched at the waist with a golden Medusa buckle; and a khaki trench coat featuring a back panel crafted from one of the brand’s vibrant Barocco-printed silk scarves.

“I am thrilled that Cillian is joining the Versace family,” Donatella Versace, the brand’s longstanding creative director, said in a statement. “He is magnetic and mesmerizing in front of a camera and I loved seeing him bring Versace to life.” Donatella Versace lauded Murphy as quintessentially “Versace”—strong, direct, and iconic, which brings the essence of Versace to life in the campaign.
From Murphy’s side, he claimed “collaborating with Donatella — from sharing image references to selecting the music of Fountains D.C. for the video — resulted in a campaign that reflects who I am”. “The collection of well cut empowering designs made from great fabric suits me perfectly.”

This marks Murphy’s initial foray into luxury collaborations, a notable step for the famously private actor who retreats to his home in Dublin during his off-seasons and views “engaging in everyday activities” as the most effective form of professional research. Despite this, Murphy’s collaboration with stylist Rose Forde during the particularly stylish press tour for Oppenheimer has elevated his fashion profile, earning him recognition as one of the best-dressed men on every red carpet. While such a scenario may have seemed improbable just a year ago, Murphy now stands as both an Oscar winner and the latest ambassador for Italy’s most glamorous legacy brand.
